History of Texaco Petrol Stations
Texaco (short for The Texas Company) was founded in 1901 in Beaumont, Texas, following the discovery of oil at Spindletop. It quickly grew into one of the most iconic oil brands in the world.
Texaco made history in 1911 by becoming the first oil company to sell gasoline in all 48 U.S. states, and in 1913, it opened its first Texaco-branded service stations, recognizable by the bold red Texaco star logo. These stations set the standard for the modern American filling station-clean, efficient, and built with customer service in mind.
Throughout the 20th century, Texaco expanded internationally and became known for its high-performance "Fire-Chief" and "Sky Chief" fuel brands. It sponsored popular radio and TV programs, and its star logo with a green "T" became a symbol of quality and reliability on highways across the world.
Texaco entered the Australian market in the mid-20th century, where it operated alongside other major petrol brands. Its stations were known for their distinctive architecture and reliable service before many were absorbed or rebranded due to global mergers.
In 2001, Texaco merged with Chevron, forming ChevronTexaco (later renamed simply Chevron in 2005). While the Texaco brand has disappeared in some countries, it still operates in parts of Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean, and lives on through collectibles, vintage signage, and restored petrol pumps that celebrate its golden era.
